Quick Summary Of Fiverr

What Is Fiverr?

Fiverr is one of the worlds largest marketplaces for people looking to buy and sell a variety of digital services online. The company started back in 2010 and got it’s name “Fiverr” because each service or gig as they like to call it only costed $5.00 dollars.

Since then, you’ll find gigs that will range anywhere between several hundred to a thousand dollars for each one — but for the majority of the part almost every gig still remains $5.00 or close to it.

Now due to how cheap and quickly you can get these task done, you might be wondering is Fiverr a scam or is it a legit way to get task done without spending too much money.

Well in short Fiverr is not a scam due to the fact that people can make money in exchange for selling a service — however some of these services people sell aren’t all that helpful which is why you’ll see people complain and call the site a scam.

I’ll be showing a few examples about this in a second.

Before I do though, let me explain in more detail exactly how Fiverr works, what it’s like selling a service, what it’s like trying to buy something, and why this is indeed a great site for buyers and sellers alike.

How Does Fiverr Work?

As I just mentioned, Fiverr allows you to either create a gig on just about anything and make money, or browse through their thousands of services and get something done for just a few bucks.

Either way it’s a win win situation because if your good at something and can do it quickly, you can make a lot of money from this site — and on the other hand if you need something done and don’t want to spend a lot of money this is also helpful.

So to give you a better overview on how to do this, let me walk you through what it’s like to sell a service and buy one within Fiverr’s platform.

How To Sell On Fiverr

Once you sign up to Fiverr (which is completely free), you’ll then click become a seller at the top of the website to start the process.

From here you’ll then need to provide the following information in order to start selling gigs within their platform.

Create your seller Profile.

This is where you’ll provide a picture and short description about yourself, what kind of skills you have, what languages you speak, the amount of time your able to work on Fiverr, and what kind of education you have.

create your profile

I would take some time as you create this (and possibly have a professional picture taken of you) — because this is where people will get to know the person “you” behind the gig their considering buying.

And as we all know, first impressions are always the most important — so you want to look professional and friendly that way people will be more likely to buy from you instead of someone else.

Next you’ll create your gig.

To create your gig, the first thing you’ll want to do is give it a title, choose the appropriate category and sub category it should go under, and add some tags to it so it will be easier for people to search and find your gig.

Choose a title for your gig
Next in the scope and pricing section, you’ll give a description as to what your gig is about, tell your customers how long it will take you to do your gig, and select the price for your service.

Scope and pricing

Then last but not least, in the gallery section you want to upload a few pics and possibly some short videos showing people what your gig is about.

How Much Money Can You Make With Fiverr?

First and foremost, when calculating how much money you can potentially make with Fiverr, you must first understand that they will take portion of every sale you make.

Fiverr states that they will give you 80% net revenue for each gig you complete — and keep the other 20% for allowing you to use their platform.

For example if you sell a 5 dollar gig, you’ll make $4.00 dollars while Fiverr takes $1.00 — or if you sell a 200 dollar gig you’ll make $160 dollars while Fiverr takes $40.

So to answer this question, it really boils down to how many gigs can you do in 1 day, and how popular is your gig at the current time.

You see on one hand if you are doing a gig that takes about 30 mins – 1 hour to do, or the gig your doing is not in high demand, then you might only make a few bucks a day.

However if you can outsource your gigs to other people or have a software help you complete them, along with it being very popular — you can make A LOT of money within Fiverr.

Here’s an example of someone creating logos for $10-$30 bucks and has 175 in Que waiting to be delivered within 24 hours.

full time income

And if you do the calculations, this person is looking at making $1,750 – $5,000 in 1 day!

So in short you can easily make a full time income with Fiverr, however it’s not something many people can do since there is quite a lot of competition within their platform.

However even though it might be competitive, doesn’t mean it’s impossible. And to help you out here’s a few ways you can make your gig stand out from the crowd.

4 Tricks To Improve Your Gig And Make More Money

While simply advertising your gig online is definitely one way you can try to make more money with your gig, there’s also a few other things you can do to help increase the odds of someone choosing yours verses someone else.

1. Be energetic and fun when creating videos for your gig and profile.

Let’s face it no one likes listening to a boring or dull person — especially when they’re trying to show you something. So when you’re creating videos for your gigs and profile — try to be enthusiastic as your describing what it is you’re trying to sell.

And if you need some examples on how to do this, just look at some of the top sellers within Fiverr and people over at YouTube. But if you do nothing but simply smile and look professional — it will still make a big difference!

2. Do something unique with your gig so that it will stand out.

Even though there may be thousands of other people that may be doing the same gig you’re doing, you can still set yourself apart by offering a unique service to your customers.

For example going back to the logo gigs, here’s a person willing to do unlimited revisions at no extra cost!

unique gig

You can imagine if just each person asked for 1 revision this can take quite a lot of time and money away from this guys business. However, he knows in the long run that by going the extra mile in doing this — he will more then likely get A LOT more customers for doing so.

So again when creating your gig, try to find a different angle you can go about doing it so that people will choose you over another person.

3. Keep your gigs at $5.00 dollars, even if you should charge more for it.

Now as tempting as it may be to make your gig sell for $10 dollars or more, try to keep them at $5.00 (especially when you’re starting out).

Your main goal when joining Fiverr besides making money, is to build up your reputation so that people will come to know you and your work. Then as time passes, you can start to charge more per gig as your rating and orders go up.

4. Last but not least, provide excellent service to your customers.

Providing an excellent service to your customers is one of the best things you can do if you want to become successful with Fiverr.

And I when I say provide an excellent service, I don’t just mean create a quality gig to help people out — but to make sure you deliver them on time, and answer any questions they may have while your conducting business with them.

If you can do this, you’ll find people will gladly come back to you again and again solely because of how you treated them.

How To Buy On Fiverr

Once your on Fiverr’s platform you can find a gig either by using the search bar at the top, or by browsing the different categories.

how to search on Fiverr

After you find something you want, you’ll simply click the continue button followed by the “order now” button on the next page to buy the gig (which can be done through PayPal or a credit card).

Now once the order is processing, you’ll then need to fill out some additional information pertaining to the gig so the seller can know what to do.

And the thing I really like about Fiverr, is you won’t actually pay the seller anything until you get the order and are satisfied with the final product.

So if you enjoy what you got you’ll simply approve it and pay the amount needed, or if you’re not satisfied you can request a refund or message the seller directly to see if they can make any changes to the gig so it meets your needs.

3 Tips On How To Find Legitimate Sellers

Now even though Fiverr is legit website where you can get services done pretty cheaply, you still need to watch out for people trying to scam you or provide you with a gig that’s basically useless.

So to keep that from happening, here’s 3 things you can look out for next time you’re thinking about buying something from Fiverr. .

1. Avoid gigs that promise you amazing results for only $5.00 dollars.

If you come across a gig that sounds too good to be true, then 99% of the time it is.

Most of the time people offering these services promise you incredible results — but what ends up happening is they use shady tactics which usually ends up harming you in one way or another.

For example this gig here says it will give you 5,000 U.S. based traffic in the next 30 days for only $5,00 dollars. But this is obviously a complete lie, and even it were true it most definitely would not be high converting traffic — which would make it pretty much useless.

a bad gig

Also, I’ve known people to actually buy these type of gigs for their website and ended up having their site slapped by Google as a result — thus making them lose thousands of dollars and high converting traffic.

So again if you see a gig that’s promising you the world — it’s best just to walk away.

2. Look for people that can speak and write proper English.

People that are looking to make a quick buck or right up scam you out of your money, usually don’t speak proper English. Yes I know that may seem harsh to say, but its the sad truth.

It just shows that these people don’t care enough about their gig to do it professionally — which therefore means they aren’t going to treat you in a professional manner either. So just be on the look out for them.

Instead, accept only people that know how to write and speak proper English — as well as take the time out of their day to look professional both in their profile and gig pictures / videos.

3. Find a seller with an overall good ranking.

What I mean by this is instead of just clicking on Fiverr’s top seller button and choosing the first person you see, first check to see how many orders they’ve completed verses the rating they’re given.

Because a person can have a 99% rating with only 2 orders under their belt, while someone else can have a 90% rating and has done over 700 orders.

So just make sure the person your thinking of buying from has both a good rating plus has done several orders.

What I Like About It

  • Anyone can use it to either buy a gig or create one to make money
  • You can get some services done for a very cheap price
  • Their platform is easy to use
  • You won’t have to pay for a gig until your satisfied with the result
  • You can use either PayPal or a credit card to buy gigs

What I Don’t Like About It

  • You’re not always guaranteed a quality gig
  • It can be hard to make good money when first starting due to how competitive it is

Fiverr is basically for anyone and everyone.

Whether you need some type of digital service done for you, or you’re looking to make some extra money online — you can do it all within this platform.

Just be sure to spend some time creating a unique gig if your trying to sell, or spend some time looking through various offers so you can get the most bang for your buck.

    • Thanks for sharing your personal experience with Fiverr Irene. I’m glad to hear that you were satisfied with the job you asked to get done.

You also make a good point like I mentioned within my post, that in order to get someone to do a job well for you — it’s best to find a high rated seller that has many gigs under their belt.

  2. Great article about Fiverr. I’ve only used it once as a buyer for logo creation. Paid 25$ and it was okay, although I pretty much told him exactly how the logo should look like. Guess I could have made it on my own.

Anyways, it’s a great platform with a wide range of activities. Thanks for the insight how to make money there. Sounds pretty competitive.

    • That’s cool that Fiverr was able to help you create a logo Felix.

I’ve found that while yes many jobs on there is a task you and me could do — I think the advantage is you can spend just $5.00 bucks and spend that time it would take you to do that on something more important.

For example, I’d probably fiddle around for hours trying to create a perfect logo — so personally I’d rather have someone else do it while I create content for my website.

    • I wouldn’t say that it necessarily takes “hard work” to make good money with Fiverr, but I believe if you just think outside the box and present your gig in a unique way (and you put your customers first) — you will succeed.

Thanks for taking time out of your day to read my review Julienne. 🙂

  4. hello there, thank you for your article about Fiver. It was really great and covers a lot of aspects of this service. Actually I was using it quit a lot but unfortunately I had to stop doing so. Their services and reputation kept me away from it. When you are a blogger, you’re often advised to not use fiverr to get something done, and I did so.

The services I personally recommend are logos, artistic, design in general and wordpress customization. Now, as you mentioned, freelancer have upgraded their gigs and able to offer more expensive services about anything. The problem is that the value of their Fiverr’s 5$ gigs are less effective than before.

    Thank you again 🙂

    Youba.

    • Thanks for sharing your experience Juba. As I mentioned in my review, it’s true that there are a lot of gigs people sell on Fiverr which quite frankly aren’t all that good.

But I think the ones you mentioned (logos, banners, and technical support with WordPress) are all good and I would probably spend more then $5 dollars on them.

Just don’t fall for those gigs that promise you the world and I think you’ll see that Fiverr is still a great platform to use. 🙂

Your in depth review gives all the information necessary from both viewpoints, buyer and seller, along with the instructions on what it takes to get started.

Your firsthand experience lends credibility and gives me the confidence to proceed on my own, now that I know exactly what to expect. And the personal tips for improving my chances of making money are truly valuable, as are the various screenshots of exactly what the site looks like at different stages of the signing up process.

I think if you spend a few minutes looking around there, you could easily find something to help you out. 🙂 Just be careful of those gigs that promise unrealistic results like thousands of visitors to your site by tmrw, or 500 new Facebook likes within an hour.
