Is Herbalife Legit, Or Nothing But A Complete Scam?

Quick Summary Of Herbalife

Name: Herbalife

Price: $94.10 or $124.10 depending on which pack you purchase

Rating: 2/5

What Is Herbalife?

Herbalife is a nutrition company that started back in 1980, and is aimed to help people live healthier lives with their products.

Herbalife also says that they don’t sell their products in stores, but instead rely on their distributors to sell their products for them through an MLM business style. And as of December 2017, they claimed to have around 4 million members and made a total of 4.4 billion in net sales.

Now since your on this page, you’re probably wondering is Herbalife legit, or is it just another company trying to scam you out of your money.

Well after reviewing this program, I can say that while I don’t believe they are a scam since they  have  legitimate products they’re selling — trying to make money through this company is probably going to be quite a challenge.

And to help show you why I believe this, let me show you what this company sells and how it works.

How Does It Work?

As I said earlier, Herbalife sells products to help people live healthy life styles and get the proper nutrition they need. With around 50+ products in total, they can be broken down into 4 different categories:

  • Healthy Weight
  • Specialized Nutrition
  • Energy & Fitness
  • Skin & Hair Care

Here’s a brief description of what each one is, and some of the products they sell within each category.

Healthy Weight

Healthy Weight

They say with their cutting edge science along with their shakes and snacks, you can now get rid of that unwanted fat you’ve always dreamed of.

Their products include things like protein drinks, bars, healthy nuts, and vitamins to help you become slimmer. While their shakes and bars go for around $30 dollars per items, their programs range from $100-$230.

health programs

Now personally I might spend a few bucks buying a protein bar or some shakes — but I don’t really see it all the necessary to go spending hundreds of dollars on a program to teach you how to lose weight.

Simple eat healthier and start exercising more, or if you want to spend that kind of money hire an instructor at a gym to help you out.

Specialized Nutrition

Specialized Nutrition

Much as the name says, this category offers a wide range of pills to help people with a wide variety of things. There products are aimed to help things like….

  • Heart health
  • Women’s health
  • Men’s health
  • Children’s health
  • Aging health
  • Digestive health

Now it has been proven that many of these products work different from person to person — so if you were to buy these items, you may or may not see the kind of results you were hoping for.

Energy & Fitness

Energy And Fitness

These items seem to be geared toward athletes, and claim to help deliver key nutrients for faster recovery and peak performance.

Again this will come in either a pill or powder, and come in a variety of different flavors like lemon, orange, and tropical fruit.

Skin & Hair Care

Skin And Hair Care

Last but not least, these Herbalife products are supposed to help improve your skin and hair after just one use!

They provide a wide variety of creams, soaps, and gels — with common ingredients like aloe vera and Shea butter in them.

skin and hair products

So now that you know get a general idea of what they’re selling, lets have a look at how you’ll be making money with them.

Their Compensation Plan

In order to become a distributor for Herbalife and make money selling their products, you’ll either need to buy the International Business Pack at $94.10, or the Super Starter International Business Pack at $124.10.

The kit allows you to do things like…

  • Get access to their training
  • Get support from your sponsor
  • Being able to sponsor others
  • And most importantly getting discounts on Herbalife products

Now once you have this kit, you’ll be making money by selling Herbalife products after you buy them at a discount. Your discounts will start off at 25%, then as you start to sell more items it can go all the way up to 50%.

How you earn

So as you can see in the picture, if you were starting off selling a product at $39.9, you’d only be making a $9.50 dollar profit. But if you were able to get up to 50%, then you’d be making $19.9.

Also as I mentioned earlier, since this is an MLM company you’ll also be able to make money from the sales of the people you sponsor too.

However one thing I REALLY like about this company is the only way you can make money with this company is by actually selling their products — and not by just recruiting people into their program.

Have to sell products to make money

This is something you don’t see too often in MLM companies — and I believe is a big reason as to why Herbalife has been around for almost 40 years.

How Much Does It Cost?

As I said earlier, you can either pay $94.10 for the International Business Pack, or $124.10 for the Super Starter International Business Pack.

Of course you’ll also have to buy Herbalife’s products at a discount so you can then turn around and try to sell them for a profit.

So Is Herbalife A Scam?

In short, I don’t think Herbalife is a scam. They sell several products (some good and some not so good) aimed at helping people live healthier lives.

However I think if you want to become a distributor and earn money with this company, it’s going to be quite a challenge.

In fact Herbalife even says that their is no guarantee that you’ll make money with them, and in order to succeed it’s going to take a lot of hard work, time, and some skill to make it happen.

making money is not guaranteed

And while I can appreciate they admit selling their products is not easy — the truth with most MLM companies is over 90% of people fail with them. This usually boils down to things like not being able to get enough leads, lack of proper training, not having the right mindset, and overall just not selling a decent product.

That’s why I have never and will never join an MLM company, and spend my time instead building out sites around specific niches I enjoy writing about.

In fact the way I make money online (which is through affiliate marketing), is so simple that all I need is a domain name, hosting, and a keyword tool to build out a full time business online.

This program here has taught me how to do all of this and more, and has allowed it to where I don’t need to sell or recruit people to make decent income online.

What I Like About It

  • They seem to be offering decent products to help people live a better and healthier life
  • You cannot earn money by only recruiting people
  • There are no minimum purchases required
  • There’s a 12-month money back guarantee for the cost of the International Business Pack if canceled for any reason

What I Don’t Like About It

  • Many people spend a lot of money without earning anything in return
  • Some of their products are questionable as to whether they actually work or not
  • People heave complained that some of their distributors are very aggressive in trying to make them buy products

Who Is Herbalife For?

I believe Herbalife is mainly for people that want to purchase items to help them live better lives. This can be to have better heart heath, immune health, smoother skin, and better hair.

Again people have claimed these products have different effects on people — so the only way to truly know if these can benefit you is to try them out yourself.

As far as the business side goes, I would say while you can potentially make money through them — it’s going to be hard, take a lot of time, and you’ll have to probably spend a good amount of money before you start to generate an income.

My Final Rating

2 out of 5

Overall it seems Herbalife is a legit company that sells reasonably products aimed to help people live better and healthier lives. However when it comes to their business opportunity, you’re probably better off looking for something else.

They clearly say in their compensation plan that in order to make money it will take a lot of work, many people will not succeed, and your’re more then likely going to have to sell to your family and close friends.

So instead of joining a company that clearly has a high chance of you failing, why not check out this program instead?

The program Wealthy Affiliate has been around since 2005, has helped me and thousands of people grow a profitable business online, and doesn’t involve you begging people close to you to buy a service from you.

  1. Hello there Michael,

I see health products tied with Multi Level Marketing strategies and I don’t look at them again. I have been there and my experience was really terrible.

I was made to slave like a donkey to sell the products I had bought from the company I was working for, and realized that the company didn’t really care about how well I was doing — and left me carrying all the risk.

    I’m not going there again.

    • I don’t blame you Dave. While some MLM companies may very well have good products for sell — the people who join the company and try to make money with them usually end up making close to nothing.

Or what also happens is people might be making good money with a program, then all of a sudden the company vanishes due to one reason or another — which usually boils down to them not helping their customers and distributors enough.

This is personally why I’ve never joined an MLM company as I don’t want to be tied down to selling a certain product and recruiting people day in and day out. I’d much rather build websites and sell whatever I want to people that I know need a certain product or service I’m offering. 🙂

  2. I have used Herbal Life before, and I must say Herbal Life is one of the best on the market. Your discussion regarding this fine product is real and genuine.

Like you, I have never been interested in joining their affiliate program. Although I have known some friends who have done well selling the products.

Thanks for an informative review of Herbal Life!

    • I’m glad to hear that Herbalife’s products worked good for you — being as I read several people say that they didn’t get good results after using their products themselves.

Also while I no doubt am sure some people have made money with this program, — the chance of succeeding with this kind of company is very hard. But I am glad that your friends were able to do well with this company too. 🙂

  3. I’m not a big fan of programs that don’t have a lot of success stories, and I also don’t like to spend lots of money.

Also if the products don’t work as they should it is just really bad for business. Thanks for the overview about this program.

My friend suggested this and I will definitely send this writing to him before he joins.

    • Now I don’t want to say all their products flat out don’t work, because some people have found them helpful, but others haven’t.

Also regarding the business side of things, I will admit that I think it will be hard to succeed and make decent money through this program — but again it could be possible.

Just personally I’m the type of person who has never and will never enjoy the MLM business style — as I prefer to all kinds of different products to people that I know will help them, and that they will also enjoy.

  4. I don’t know, I can’t make up my mind about MLM. I’ve never met people who make good money from them, and they usually lose friends in the process because whenever you see them, they’re always trying to get you to buy something.

Some sort of online MLM might be alright. The hard part in MLM is not only being good at selling the products but also recruitment. Getting your network happening and having them turnover product for you.

This Herbalife doesn’t sound like it’s for me. In fact, it sounds pretty dismal! Haha

What do you think of Ecom Profit Sniper?

    • I would actually go as far to say that most MLM business don’t involve you really learning how to sell their products — but just trying to recruit as many people as you can.

Then what you’ll do is teach them how to also recruit more people — which actually turns into a vicious cycle of not selling products but selling the “idea” of becoming rich, which is where the pyramid scheme comes from.

That’s why I was actually pleased to hear Herbalife didn’t pay people on recruiting people, but actually selling physical products. However I still don’t think it will actually be easy to earn good money with them.

As far as Profit Sniper goes, I actually just wrote a full review about them here. In short though I don’t recommend them as they don’t teach you basic yet important things like how to get traffic.

All it really shows you how to do is set up a Shopify store and that’s it.
