Quick Summary Of Nu Skin

Name:  Nu Skin

Price: $35 – $1,000

Rating: 3 out of 5

What Is Nu Skin?

Nu Skin is an MLM company that’s been around for a very long time and sells a variety of skincare and health products.

In fact, this company started 36 years ago in 1984 by Blake Roney, Steve Lund, Sandie Tillotson, and Nedra Roney — who all wanted to build the world’s leading business opportunity platform.

And they say their mission is to improve people’s lives by allowing them to build a rewarding business  — which would be done by selling their products and opportunity around the world.

You might be thinking though can this company actually help you do such as thing, or will you end up spending a lot of money with nothing to show for it.

Well as I tell everyone who is thinking about joining an MLM company, you can definitely make money in it ( and a lot ) — however the chances of it happening are VERY rare.

I’ll explain more why this is in a second — but to summarize it up, you have to have an outgoing personality and know how to recruit literally hundreds of people each month into this business to become successful.

And if you don’t know how to do this, you’ll then be part of the 99% of all people who fail to make money with an MLM company.

What Does Nu Skin Sell?

When you visit Nu Skin’s website, you’ll see very quickly that they sell hundreds if not thousands of products.

They have…

  • Anti aging creams
  • Facial Cleansers
  • Oral care products
  • Toners
  • Multivitamins
  • Weight loss shakes and pills
  • Their own unique beauty devices
  • And more

Now how effective these creams, lotions, and other things are I can’t say since I don’t know anyone that has personally used them.

However if I were a betting man, I’d imagine you could find something VERY similar at one of your local stores such as Walmart.

Nu Skin Compensation Plan

The thing I hate most about MLM companies is how confusing they make their compensation plans.

They use tons of complicated graphs, lots of numbers making you feel like you’re back in school, and they use words that basically no one has ever heard of before.

So you can literally sit there for hours trying to figure out how it works.

But instead of doing that, I’ll simplify it for you so that you can understand the basics of how you’ll be making money with this company.

Affiliate Ranks

There are a total of 10 ranks you can earn with this company which are as followed…

  1. Active Distributor
  2. Qualifying Executive
  3. Provisional Executive
  4. Executive
  5. Gold Executive
  6. Lapis Executive
  7. Ruby Executive
  8. Emerald Executive
  9. Diamond Executive
  10. Blue Diamond Executive

Now each of these ranks gets harder and harder to obtain, simply because you have to make more sales and recruit more people into your team.

But this is so difficult to do that unfortunately hardly anyone gets to rank 3.

Retail Commissions

When you sell Nu Skin’s products directly to people, you will earn a 25% commission. So if if you were to sell a $50 product, you would make $12.5 dollars.

Residual Commissions

Nu Skin uses a unilevel structure within their compensation plan.

This means when you personally recruit anyone into your team they will be on your first level. Now if anyone on your first level recruits someone these people will be on your 2nd level, and so on and so forth.

Now the higher the rank you are, the deeper your team can grow which means you’ll be able to make more money.

And talking about this company specifically, you will earn 5% of all the sales your team makes.

Again though this is the basics of how their plan works. But if you would like a better explanation, you can view their entire plan here, plus watch this short 18 minute video.

How Much Does It Cost?

To become a member of Nu Skin, you simply have to pay $35.

However if you want to participate in their compensation plan or sell their products, you’ll have to buy one of their kits which costs between $100 – $1,000 dollars.

What I Like About It

  • This company has been around for nearly 4 decades

One of the first things that impressed me about this company is the fact that it has been around for almost 40 years.

You see an average MLM company last 5 – 7 years max, so the fact that Nu Skin here has been around for so long means that they are at least doing something right.

So it’s good to know that if you are thinking about joining this opportunity that it won’t be going anywhere for a while.

  • They offer a high retail commission rate

Another thing I like about this company is that you earn 25% commissions on all products you directly sell to people.

Now this not only is pretty high but also very uncommon because MLM’s usually focus on giving people lots of bonuses and extra money for building their teams.

So it’s nice to see that you can earn some good money if you don’t feel like recruiting people day in and day out.

  • A lot of people like their products

When I was looking at reviews on consumer affairs, I noticed one person after the next talking about how much they loved Nu Skin’s products.

For example this person here said their skin and hair showed fantastic results after using these products, and that it also didn’t give them allergic reactions.

So it looks like if you want to join this company, then you have lots of proof that not only are the products this company is selling high quality — but that hundreds of people have used them and seen amazing results.

What I Don’t Like About It

  • They have had multiple lawsuits against them

Over the years Nu Skin has had several lawsuits filed against them for several reasons.

  1. In 1991 they had to pay $16 million dollars for misleading sales practices
  2. In 1994 they again had to pay millions of dollars for lying about how much they made
  3. In 1997 they had to pay close to a million dollars for false advertising
  4. And in 2014 they had to pay $47 million dollars to China for being accused of being a Pyramid Scheme

So all in all, this company has had a lot of issues in their past and seems to be trying to make their company sound better than it really is.

  • Their products are very expensive

When you browse their products on Nu Skin’s website, you’ll see that most of them are $50 – $100.

But it gets even worse when you are trying to buy them in bulk to either sell to people to make money or use them to get people to join your team.

As you can see in this picture here, the packages range from $150 – $700.

Is Nu Skin A Pyramid Scheme - they have very expensive products

And remember you’ll have to keep buying these creams and lotions over and over again to try and earn an income with this company.

So my question is do you really want to spend this kind of cash?

And furthermore, how are you going to convince your customers to buy this when they can simply go to their local beauty store and buy basically the same thing for way cheaper.

  • They are in a competitive niche

Just about everywhere you look, you see companies online and offline ( like Bath and Body Works or Rodan Fields ) claiming to sell lotions, creams, and other body products to make you feel and look better.

So how exactly are you going to convince someone to buy these overpriced products when they are probably already satisfied with the particular brand they are using?

Because I can tell you my wife will 99% of the time go with the brand she’s had before — and I’m sure that’s how it goes with just about every woman out there too.

  • The chances of you earning a good income are very low

According to Nu Skin’s income disclosure, the majority of their members are earning about $30 dollars a month, with about 2% of them earning around $500.

Then less than 1% of the remaining people have gone on to actually make several thousand dollars a month.

Is Nu Skin A Pyramid Scheme - income disclosure

And believe it or not, this is the normal trend in every single MLM company on the planet. So I don’t know about you, but I would not want to join a business that basically says I’m guaranteed to fail would you?

Is Nu Skin A Scam?

Nu Skin is definitely not a scam.

They sell what most people would call amazing products, you can make real money with this company, and the founders of the company seem to have your best interest at heart.

However with that said, it seems to me that this company will sometimes push the boundaries and make claims about their business / products that simply aren’t true to try and make more money.

Plus the mere fact that the majority of everyone who joins it makes less than $1k a month doesn’t sound like a good opportunity.

So while you’re more than welcome to try this company out if you want, I would not recommend it simply because I know there are better and easier ways of generating an income online.

Is Nu Skin A Pyramid Scheme?

Nu Skin is also not a Pyramid Scheme.

Now even though this company has had multiple lawsuits filed against them ( with one specifically calling them a Pyramid Scheme ) — this simply is not the case.

You see in order for a business to be one, their members have to make all their money by recruiting people versus selling products or services.

Then what happens is the people who joined the company at the very beginning are at the top of the “pyramid” making all the money, while people who joined later on are at the bottom earning nothing.

But as I showed you earlier, you get a generous 25% commission on any product you sale — which proves that this is indeed a legit company.

So while some people may call this a Pyramid Scheme, this simply isn’t true.

And to further prove my point, you can watch this short 2 minute video that explains what a Pyramid Scheme is and how you can spot one.

My Final Thoughts

Nu Skin is a legit business even though they’ve had some problems in their past.

Plus it seems like everyone who tries out their products seem to instantly fall in love with them — which is probably one of the reasons this company has lasted so long.

However with all that said, if you’re looking to join this opportunity to earn an income than you might want to think again.

Because this company uses an MLM business model that requires you to have an outgoing personality, recruit hundreds of people per month into your team, and then be able to teach all these people how to become successful marketers.

Of course this is extremely hard to do, and as you saw within their income disclosure less than 1% ever actually pull this off.

So I don’t know about you, but spending thousands of dollars and begging my friends and family to buy products or join my team sounds like an embarrassing way to build a business.

This is why I prefer affiliate marketing to generate an income online.

There’s no recruiting whatsoever, you can sell whatever products you want, and you don’t have to spend a dime on advertising.

You simply create helpful content that points people towards products they’re already looking for  — then you get paid a commission each time they buy something.

  1. This is a rather very informative review you have written here about NU Skin. I just recently got invited by a friend to join in here and be a member so I decided to carry out my own research to get detailed information and know what I’m getting into.

This is really great to see on the whole considering they have been around for a very long time. Thank you for sharing.

  2. Although I am not a part of things like this, I think this is a good post because you have laid out exactly what they are selling and how you can make money with this company.

I’m also glad to see that their products are good, which means people will definitely want to buy them.

However after looking at their income disclosure you provided, I don’t think this is a company I would want to be joining since not many people are making a lot of money.

Thanks again for this awesome review.

    • I’m glad to hear you found my review helpful Suz.

And I think you made a wise decision in not joining this company. Because even though they do sell products that everyone seem to enjoy, the fact remains that basically 99% of the people who join it don’t earn a good income.

So really what’s the point in joining an opportunity if you can make money right?

This is why I always tell people to check out Wealthy Affiliate which teaches affiliate marketing because a lot more people generate a good income with this business model.

And I think this is primarily due to the fact that it doesn’t cost a lot to get started in, you don’t have to recruit people, and you can build a business around basically anything you are passionate about.
