What Is Origami Owl?

Origami Owl is an MLM ( multi-level-marketing ) company that’s within the jewelry / fashion niche.

It was founded in 2010 by a girl named Bella Weems when she was just 14 years old.

She said she wanted a car during her next birthday, and her parents said she would have to buy it herself if she really wanted it.

So she started selling personalized lockets with charms inside of them, and before too long everyone was calling and asking her if they could buy one — and yes she did manage to buy her car.

Fast forward to today, Origami Owl has over 60,000 members and is making millions of dollars each year.

And if you want, you can watch this short 3 minute video where Bella talks about how she started this company.

They also say their goal is to help others achieve their financial dreams the same way Bella did when she just started out.

Now can this company actually help you do this, or will you be left making close to nothing and spending a lot of money on jewelry?

Well I won’t say it’s impossible ( because it totally is ) — but the chances of you becoming successful are very slim. And I’ll give you proof later on to back up this claim as well.

What Does Origami Owl Sell?

One of the things that impressed me with this company is Origami Owl sells a wide variety of jewelry on their site as you can see here.

Is Origami Owl A Scam - jewelry

However the main focus is their locket builder where you personally customize a locket with hundreds of unique trinkets and designs.

Is Origami Owl A Scam - build your own locket

And here is some other things you’ll find on their site besides this lock here…

Charms

This is of course the hundreds of different charms you can buy to customize your jewelry. They have Halloween ones, Christmas ones, wedding ones, bugs, flowers, and more.

Chains

Basically instead of putting your charm into a locket, you can buy a chain and put them in there.

Bracelets and Watches

They sell some pretty nice looking watches and bracelets, and again you can also buy certain ones that you can customize to your liking.

Necklaces

The necklaces basically have the same design and look like the chains — expect they simply go around your neck instead of your wrists.

Rings and Earrings

Their rings and earrings also look quite nice and I could see a girl wanting to buy them.

So again as you can see this company has a lot for sale on their website, which is a good thing for anyone wanting to join it and make money with them.

Origami Owl Compensation Plan

I always dread reading MLM compensation plans because they are long, confusing, and frankly make my brain hurt.

Now luckily Origami Owl’s plan is only 1 page. However it can still be confusing to understand what you are looking at.

Therefore I will try to explain it as simply as possible so you can see how it works.

Affiliate Ranks

There are a total of 15 ranks within this plan, and they are as follows…

  1. Designer
  2. Senior Designer
  3. Executive Designer
  4. Team Leader
  5. Senior Team Leader
  6. Executive Team Leader
  7. Team Manager
  8. Senior Team Manager
  9. Executive Team Manager
  10. Director
  11. Senior Director
  12. Executive Director
  13. Field Vice President
  14. Senior Field Vice President
  15. Executive Field Vice President

Now it gets harder and harder as you climb in the ranks because you have to recruit more people and make more sales to get qualified.

In fact it’s so hard that the majority of people never even make it to rank 3 of Executive Designer.

Retail Commissions

Depending on what item you are selling to someone, you can earn 20% – 50% commission of your product.

So if you sold a Living Locket say for about $60, you can potentially make $30.

Residual Commissions

Origami Owl uses a unilevel structure within their plan to calculate your residual income.

This means as you recruit people directly into your team they will be on your first level, then when someone on your first level recruits someone they will be on your second level, and so on and so forth.

Is Origami Owl A Scam - Unilevel compensation structure

Now this company goes 5 levels deep, and you will make money based primarily on what rank you are.

For example…

  • Executive Designer = 6% level 1, and 4% level 2
  • Executive Team Manager = 8% level 1, 5% levels 2 – 4
  • Executive Field Vice Present = 10% level 1, 7% levels 2- 3, and 6% levels 4 – 5

So as you can see, the higher you get into the ranks the more opportunity you have to make more money.

Bonuses

There are also a few bonuses you can earn in this company such as the Advancement Bonus and Generate Bonus.

And to earn these you have to meet very specific conditions.

However instead of boring you on the details of this, you can refer back to the image I showed just a second ago to understand how it works.

How Much Does It Cost?

To join Origami Owl you have to buy one of their kits which are…

  • Dream Big Starter Kit = $20 USD
  • Start-Up Kit = $50 USD
  • Essentials Kit Price = $99 USD
  • Signature Kit = $199 USD

Now the only real difference in these kits is the amount of jewelry you get.

What I Like About It

  • It doesn’t cost a lot to join this company

The fact that the most amount of money you could spend to join this company is $199 is not bad at all.

Because there are other MLM companies that will ask you to spend thousands of dollars to join, then ask you to spend hundreds of dollars a month to remain active.

  • The products don’t cost a lot of money

With their jewelry costing on average between $20 – $50 dollars, this means that there’s a higher chance people will be willing to buy something from you.

Because when you’re presented with something that costs $100 or more you tend to think whether or not it’s worth the price.

However if something is around $20 — people usually are willing to spend that without a second thought.

  • This company has a lot of jewelry to pick from

Similar to other MLM companies I’ve reviewed in the past such as Paparazzi Accessories, this one here has hundreds of items people can choose from on their website.

And not only that, but they made it to where you can build your own unique custom locket so it can be something that expresses more about yourself.

What I Don’t Like About It

  • You don’t make a lot of money selling these products

With most of this company’s jewelry going for around $40, and you only make 50% commission at most — this doesn’t add up to a lot of money in the long run.

I mean sure $20 dollars and here there is nice — but to make at least $1,00 a month you’d need to sell about 50 items.

So while it’s not impossible to do that, I think it might be hard to even earn this month each and every month.

  • You’ll have to sell to your friends and family

Since this is an MLM company, this means that the only way to earn a decent income is to build a team.

However this also entails that more than likely you’ll be forced to ask the people closest in your life ( such as your friends, family, coworker, and so on ) to either buy your products or join your team.

Now while there are many reasons why I think this is a bad idea — I think the main one is that by doing this you can easily ruin your relationship with these people.

And I know because this has happened to me on numerous occasions.

  • The chances of you earning good money are less than 1%

Then last but not least, the chance of you actually earning a good income through this company is literally less than 1%.

Is Origami Owl A Scam - annual income disclosure

As you can see in this pic here, 99% of everyone who joins this company makes around $230 / month. And out of that, 92% make around $20 a month!

So basically 0.3% of people ever make it to the highest ranks which earns them a very nice income.

And I don’t know about you, but I don’t think I would want to join a company that has these kinds of odds would you?

Is Origami Owl A Scam?

Origami Owl is definitely not a scam.

They sell unique and cool looking products and it looks like the founder Bella really has the best intentions for everyone who joins this company.

However with that said, do you really want to join an opportunity with the majority of the people in it are earning only $20 a month?

Ya I didn’t think so.

So again while this company is not a scam, I don’t think it’s something you should join if you are looking to earn a good income.

Is Origami Owl A Pyramid Scheme?

Origami Owl is also not a Pyramid Scheme.

You see in order for any MLM company to technically be one the members have to make money solely from recruiting people rather than selling physical products.

Which obviously is not what you’ll be doing within this company.

So while this may look like one to some people since you have to build large teams — I can assure you that it is not.

And to further explain what I mean, you can watch this short 2 minute video that explains in more detail on what a Pyramid Scheme is.

My Final Thoughts

Origami Owl looks to be a legit MLM company, and Bella seems to have good intentions in helping anyone who joins it succeed.

However at the end of the day, literally 99% of everyone who joins this company is making below minimum wage.

And this is due to the fact that this company is using an MLM business model which requires you to recruit hundreds upon hundreds of people each month to build a large team.

Which one is super difficult, but secondly this means that the majority of your income is determined by these people in your team.

And I don’t know about you, but I don’t like the idea that I could work extremely hard all month and still earn almost nothing do you?

This is why I prefer affiliate marketing to generate an income online.

There’s no recruiting whatsoever, you can sell whatever products you want, and you don’t have to spend a dime on advertising.

You simply create helpful content that points people towards products they’re already looking for  — then you get paid a commission each time they buy something.

  1. I am with you in this article. Multi Level Marketing is such a pain. In this case, selling lockets of low values will make you very little money. The idea of recruiting teams is also hard work. You end up trying to force your relatives and friends and in the process ruin relationships when you are only trying to make a dollar.

I am with you on affiliate marketing 100%. It is the best way to do an online business becuase you do not have to worry about recruiting teams and all. Of course you still put in the hours building your website but definitely it will be worth it. Thanks for the review of Origami Owl.

    • Thanks for your comment, and it seems you and I share very similar ideas. Because even though MLM businesses are legit — I just don’t see the point in joining one due do the high failure rate.

But with affiliate marketing, you don’t have to spend a lot of money and it’s easier to do — which makes it a much better business model.

And when you couple affiliate marketing with an amazing training platform like this one here, you get one success story after the next appearing on the internet. 🙂
