What Makes A Good Training Program Online? Here’s 6 Traits You Should Look For

Are you looking to improve your life in one way or another? Maybe it’s to make more money, find the love of your life, or just get that six-pack you’ve always dreamed of?

If so, you’re probably looking to join some sort of membership or program online to help you out right? But how do you know what makes a good training program online, especially when there’s so many scams and shady products on the internet?

Well besides just looking at the website or product itself, I believe there are 6 key traits you should look for before joining any program.

About 2 years ago I actually used these 6 traits I’m about to give you to find this legitimate program online that taught me how to make money online. Again these traits or characteristics can be applied to just about any program out there.

But to make things easier, I’m going to show examples of how this program I’ve joined incorporates each and every trait that I believe a legitimate program should have.

So without any further ado, let’s jump right into things here and show you what to look for.

1) It’s Training Is Taught In Multiple Ways

When looking to decide what program you want to join, one of the most important things you want to find out is how good the training is. Because that’s the whole reason you’re joining — to learn more about something right?

However it has been proven that people learn in different ways. Some do better reading, some do better seeing, and other are more hands on.

So in order for a program to be effective, they should have the information presented to you in 2-3 different formats so that you can better understand and learn what they’re teaching.

Referring back to my program Wealthy Affiliate, here’s how each and every one of their lessons is taught within their system.

1) They write a post about each topic they cover within their lessons

Written training

2) Combined with the written post, is on average a 5-10minute video going offer what you just read

Video training

3) Lastly at the end of each lesson you have actionable task you do based on what you just learned

Actionable task

And by them doing this I found I retained the information better, I was more engaged within each lesson, and it made me feel a sense of accomplishment after each and every task.

So before you join a program, see what kind of format their training is in — and also do a quick search on Google and see what other people’s thoughts are toward a certain programs teaching.

2) It Has Excellent Customer Support

I would say without a doubt that customer support is one of the key features you definitely want in every program. In fact this one feature is so important, that it sometimes is the difference between a program being free verse you having to pay for it.

Customer Support

For example, Wealthy Affiliate teaches people how to make money by creating websites, getting people to them, then offering products to these people.

However what were to happen if my site went down or I made a huge mistake and their was no one to really help me out? Basically I would be left trying to figure it out myself, or maybe waiting hours until someone within the program could also help me.

Or say you were on a dating website, and needed help on how to contact people within their program? If they couldn’t help, you could very well miss the chance to meet the love of your life.

So as you can tell, having a program with excellent customer support is something you really want to look for before deciding if you want to join them.

3) The Offer A Free Trial Or Training Course

As someone who’s reviewed hundreds of program online, I’ll see over and over how programs claim your going to love what they have — yet they are very secretive and mysterious as to what they will actually be offering you.

For example when you go into an ice cream shop, they don’t try to hide what each flavor is right? Instead the person behind the counter will ask if you would like to try a sample of anything before making a purchase right?

ice cream sample

This is because they know their ice cream taste good, and by letting you sample their flavors you’re more than likely will want to buy some.

The same goes for online programs.

It’s hard to tell if a program is good or not if they don’t let you see the inside of it, or are very vague as to how it works.

But programs that offer you a free training course, or even better yet for a certain amount of time let you try their program out free of charge is probably a good one — because they know what their selling is worth buying, and they want you to test it out so you can see all the value they are offering.

For example wealthy affiliate gives you 2 free website, gives you access to 20 lessons teaching you lots of valuable information on how to make money online, and lets you use their keyword research tool for 7 days.

And since they offer this free trial, people generally are going to know like and trust it more since they know exactly what they’ll be getting if they decide to buy it.

Therefore, if a program is offering you free training or letting you try out their program without spending any money — this is a very good sign you’re looking a great training program.

4) They Give Their Customers Some Kind Of Discount

50% off, buy one get one free, get $100 dollars off your next purchase. We all love when we see these kinds of discounts, as it means we get to keep more money in out pocket after purchasing a product or service.

Special Discount

Companies know this is a great way to increase conversions as people are going to become more loyal to the company.

Therefore people like you and me, are going to want to buy more products from them — and stay a loyal customer for many years to come.

However many companies instead of going this approach, usually offer up sells trying to scare or strongly persuade you into buying product after product.

If you go to just about any MLM company, you’ll see where most of them do just this — making you pay more and more for products that quite frankly won’t help you.

That’s why whenever I see an up sell immediately after joining a program, I usually just leave. I do this because I know all they want tp do is pump money out of me, instead of offering me true value.

So you should  be mindful of this when you are considering joining a program — and think to yourselves if this really is a company worth joining if they start you off by asking you to pay for an upsell.

5) They Provide Live Webinars Each Week

Webinars are a great way to educate people nowadays, and if you find a program that offers weekly live webinars (that don’t try to make you buy something) — then this is a great sign as it shows they want to keep their members up to date on how to do certain activities.

Weekly Webinars

Speaking from personal experience, it’s not a good feeling when you join a program all excited to learn something new — only to find out what they teach is out of date.

This is one of the main reasons I renew my membership with Wealthy Affiliate each year, as each Friday night they host an hour long webinar about a different topic on how to build a business and make money online.

Also besides webinars just adding a ton of value to a program, they are just plain fun to be a part of and watch.

6) They Encourage Feedback And Questions To Their Training

As I said earlier, while a programs training is very important — it’s pretty much useless if people can’t interact with one another and ask questions.

Also it shows the program / training cares about what they’re teaching you – and didn’t just put together something real quick in order to make money.

So therefore at the very least, a program should have some sort of forum where you can offer feedback.

let people ask questions

Or as I was talking about earlier, when you are doing your actionable task after each lesson — this is the perfect opportunity for a program to let you ask questions on the topic you just learned.

You don’t want to join a program, get confused about something, then have no way to ask someone for help.

Which brings me to another reason why I love Wealthy Affiliate so much. They offer 3 different ways in which you can interact with people, and ask questions when you’re confused.

  1. You can ask questions at the end of every training
  2. you can live chat with thousands of people if you need help
  3. And you can even private message any member (including the owners Kyle and Carson) if you’d like their help with something in particular.

So in the end, you want to make sure whatever program it is you join — that it has an easy way for you to get help when you need it like Wealthy Affiliate does.

Final Thoughts

So whether you’re looking for a program about finding true love, or how to make some extra money online — try and see if it has all these features that I just shared with you — that why you can determine how good of a program it is.

The sad part though is over half of these training courses and programs online don’t even have half of these features — and their sole purpose is to just get money out of you.

This is another reason I always recommend Wealthy Affiliate as my number 1 recommended product online — as it’s been the only program I’ve come across that has all of these features within it.

I Also believe this is the key reason that they’ve been ranked as one of the best online marketing programs for the past 13 years — due to how much they care about their subscribers.

So if you are looking for a way to make some extra money online, or quit your job — why not check out my full review about them here and also try out their system for free:

  1. Totally agree with the free trial. Many online business training out there don’t really offer this convenience and you are made to pay big upfront fees before joining.

In most cases, it’s usually disappointing and they will up sell many more training or propriety products (red flag) just to keep you in. It’s annoying really because not everyone, especially beginners, have that kind of budget.

    • It is sad that within the MMO niche (make money online) — so many programs try to make you pay an arm and a leg for a product that really is not all that helpful.

People in general are looking for a legitimate, fairly inexpensive, and honest way to make some extra money online. And as I said within my post, Wealthy Affiliate is one of the very few that offers this.

  2. What I like most about training programs, is the affordability since people who are looking to create a business are the needy ones.

If I don’t need money why do I need to create a business? And how can I create a business if I don’t have enough money to to start my business?

If all I’m given is up sells, I’ll have a  greater tendency to retract from doing it because I’m hard pressed financially.

Yes, affordability and good training are partners in an online venture that must be seen at the outset.

    • Having an affordable program definitely makes all the difference in the world. As you said, most the people looking to create a business are in need of extra money — so they probably don’t have thousands of dollars to spend.

And to be honest all you need to become successful online is to pay for a domain name, hosting, and maybe an autoresponder to collect email addresses.

Too many program though pressure you into thinking you need to buy all sorts of crazy programs, tools, and plugins to become successful — when in fact most of those things are a complete waste of money and time.

The reason Wealthy Affiliate is so great, is they give you every tool you’ll need, up to date training, and a community of thousands of people you can interact with — all at a very reasonable price.

As I said I haven’t found a program that’s offering so much value, and asking for so little in return.

  3. Those are definitely good traits to look for in a program! I have researched many making money online programs and have walked away disappointed. A chance to really test drive a program for free is awesome, but it’s hard to find. The norm for most programs is hype and upsells, which I hate.

The last program I looked at cost $1997 (the discounted price) to sign up. I had 3 days to look at it and decide whether to stay or to leave.

I was given no opportunity to build a site, but could only look at training videos and some documents. Members were supposed to work with a peer and there was to be a live presentation from the owner monthly. It seemed that they weren’t being transparent about the training details. I watched several short videos from people further along in the program who said it’s best to buy whatever the owner suggests.

So after being bombarded with multiple emails/day and immediate pricey upsells from the owner, I wanted out! Fortunately, their Customer Support team got my full refund to me pretty fast at the end of my 3 days. 🙂

    • Hi Colleen, I’m sorry you had to go through that experience — but I’m glad you were able to get a full refund back so that’s good. 🙂

Just remember next time before you join a program, try to do some research and see what other people are saying about the program before joining it. You can get a great deal of information as to whether or not a program is worth your time, just by seeing how people who already joined it think about it.

This is the exact process I used before I joined Wealthy Affiliate — as I found 0 negative reviews and hundreds upon hundreds of positive reviews talking about how they were making sales and working full time online thanks to them.

If you ever have a question about a certain program, please feel free to message me and I’ll do a full review about it letting you know if it’s any good or not.

  4. Great and helpful list put together. This will definitely help beginners who are not able to tell the different between a good and bad (or shady) program.

There is too many programs out there that promise the world and yet fail to deliver.

I have also heard some really amazing and positive things about Wealthy Affiliate, and it seems like it’s something worth checking.

Do you think Affiliate Marketing is the best place to start for beginners?

    • I would definitely say that affiliate marketing is a great place for a beginner to start out.

This way they don’t have to worry about making a product, or building a membership — all they have to do is learn how to market online and point people to products in order to make money.

In fact affiliate marketing is so effective, many people only use this method and make a very good living online (as in 5-7 figures a year).

And as I said within this post, if you are interested in specifically affiliate marketing — there’s not better place to learn how to do it then at Wealthy Affiliate.
